BRC GastroPub
You can't miss BRC on Washington Avenue. A large, red rooster awaits your arrival at the parking lot entrance, and you're somehow immediately in the mood for some fried chicken.
I remember the first time I heard about BRC and loved it already - I'm a sucker for a company who's not afraid to curse on their menu, or who calls themself "Big Red Cock". Plus, they offer some badass specials for happy hour and have food that hits the spot, especially on a cheat day.
The Gastropub constantly features different specials, and we happened to be there on a night where everything was covered in chili -- Sign me up!
We started with the chili fries, which arrived smothered in chili, sour cream, cheese, and green onions (we got those on the side).
Their mac n' cheese of the day was (surprise), also covered in chili, and we couldn't resist. There's nothing better than a hearty order of mac n' cheese. It's usually hard for me to share, but I knew I'd leave satisfied.
I went for the kale ceaser salad with grilled steak as my entree. The dressing is a great blend of caesar and anchovy: not too creamy but not too light either. It paired great with the steak, and somehow, I couldn't even finish it.
My favorite part: dessert. Do your best to save room...and this is coming from someone who usually keeps a second stomach ready and hungry for dessert. I was struggling slightly but knew I had to find room for a couple bits of Butterfinger cheesecake and a slice of funfetti cake.
The funfetti cake came topped with a whipped, pink buttercream icing and was large enough to feed an army.
The Butterfinger cheesecake was my favorite: chocolate crust on the bottom, creamy cheesecake filling in the middle, and topped with a chocolate sauce and bits of Butterfinger. My fork stayed close to this one. No offense, funfetti.
I'm already planning a brunch visit to BRC, but don't sleep on their happy hour either, which features $5 appetizers and $4 draft beers.
Oh, and BRC is dog-friendly...so take the pups and enjoy a beer, slice of cheesecake, or the entire menu. It's that good!
